Every patient experiences tooth loss differently. Some patients lose large sections of teeth to decay, injury, or disease, and require dentures as a replacement. Other patients lose only a few teeth in different sections of their smiles. If the surrounding teeth can be preserved, our prosthodontists may recommend implant-supported crowns or bridges to fill the gaps.
Thanks to modern advancements in dentistry, Dr. Goggins and Dr. Aguirre can surgically attach synthetic teeth to the jawbones of our patients and provide long-lasting stability. Depending on your dental needs, our prosthodontists may recommend one of the following:
- Implant-supported dental crowns, also known as dental implants, replace the crown and root of a missing tooth. Dr. Goggins or Dr. Aguirre will place a titanium implant post in your jawbone to act as the root of the tooth. This may require a few months of healing to allow the bone and post to bond. The second part of the process involves placing a custom-made dental crown over the post to restore strength, function, and beauty to your smile.
- Implant-supported dental bridges can permanently replace one or several teeth at once. Unlike partial dentures, dental bridges are comprised of porcelain fused to metal and are designed to recreate the roots and crowns of lost teeth. Similar to implant-supported crowns, dental bridges require that dental implant posts be placed first. Then, our prosthodontists will secure a set of synthetic crowns to the posts, effectively filling the gap in your smile.
Although synthetic teeth cannot be decayed, we encourage you to clean them as you would your natural teeth to prevent the development of oral disease. You should also visit Denver Restorative Dentistry at least every six months to monitor the density of the bones and the health of your gums.
